Phil Knight, the founder of Nike, felt the power of “belief” was “irresistible”. In fact, he maintained that belief was a powerful emotion that helped him start his shoe company, Nike. He came up with the company’s name as he was visiting Greece and stood before the winged goddess Nike which means “victory.” Athletes who wanted to win worshipped her, and if you look carefully, you’ll notice a striking similarity between Nike's wings and a famous swoosh symbol found on Nike sneakers.
Irresistibility means having faith in yourself as well as having steeled belief in your cause. And this is not faith as others define it, but as you define it. It’s not something you think about either. It’s from the heart. It’s passionate Knowing. It’s not something you can see, it’s more of an insight, a pull from something greater than yourself.
“All great achievements start from insightful knowledge, a deeper comprehension where you believe you are right without knowing the reason.”
And even if others think your idea is crazy, keep pushing until you reach your goal. My message to anyone who is aspiring to succeed in any endeavor is take Knight’s advice, believe in yourself and keep persevering. As a leader when you believe in yourself and your cause, it’s infectious, contagious, or as Knight said, irresistible. It builds on itself. Because the more success you have in the completion of your goals, the more confidence you establish with everyone you touch, directly and indirectly.
