I don’t think the importance of having a strong core leadership team can be overstated. When you look at any highly successful business, they all seem to have one thing in common. They either have an individual who personifies the brand or better yet, a core leadership team that does. The key is to know who you are as a company and where you are headed. From there, you assemble a team of like-minded individuals who are exceptional at what they do. Then you create an environment of unification, openness, empowerment, competitiveness, and accountability.
Sounds simple enough, but this is no easy task. We’ve all seen companies that come and go because they weren’t built to last. Many of the common culprits for failure are things like inflated egos, lack of direction, lack of discipline, and lack of commitment. Let’s face it, it’s easy to sit back when times are good and read your own headlines, all while your competitors are putting in the midnight oil. Don’t fall into this trap.
There is a reason why Chairman of the Board of Intel, Andy Grove’s book entitled, “Only the Paranoid survive,” was such a hit. In the book, Grove underscores the importance of staying alert, nimble and adaptable. Basically, don’t fall asleep at the wheel.
At GlobalStar, we have assembled a fantastic core leadership team. The best we’ve had in our 23-year history! One where each leader is very good at what they do, but collectively, we aspire to greatness. That’s the thing about greatness, it’s a constant, never-ending pursuit. It’s like getting to the top of the mountain and then what? Getting there is just the beginning.
