Creativity

Creativity leads to innovative ideas, but first you need the time and space to think.

Creativity leads to innovative ideas, but first you need the time and space to think. Prior to Globalstar, I was with an ERP implementer, S3G. S3G was a great company. In fact, we have utilized many of the same principles and disciplines from S3G over the past 25 years at Globalstar.

S3G was a lively culture which led to transformative firsts for all involved. Leadership felt that transparency was absolute and at most 3% of all information was proprietary and should reside within the leadership team with the other 97% completely free flowing. This type of culture made for a very open exchange of ideas, which can be great, but it also made the door to my office a revolving onslaught of people coming in and out, sharing their ideas as well as their challenges. Of course, an environment such as this can be extremely stimulating, but also all-consuming.

It wasn’t until we started Globalstar in 2000 that I realized how an overstimulating situation can hinder creativity. Unfortunately, we live in a very distracting world so it’s easy to get on board and ride the never-ending spin cycle.
At Globalstar, I discovered the gift of alone time, quiet time. A time in which to contemplate, create, and recharge. Many of the best ideas are forged when we are alone with our thoughts, but for some reason, and especially nowadays, people seem to have an aversion to what they consider boredom.

Look, anyone who knows me knows I am high-strung by nature. I had an ex-colleague reach out to me recently. I hadn’t heard from her in years. It was great to catch up. Whenever she asked about my life, I went into things like family, work, and hobbies, one of which is writing books. She was like, “you’re kidding! How could you ever slow down long enough to write a book?” In that moment, I realized that she never knew me at all. That in addition to my high-strung nature, I also craved my alone time to think and create.
